Coin Strike and the joy of a game that does one thing
I didn't expect to write much about Coin Strike. It's a game about flicking coins across a board, and that description sells it short in the worst way. But after a week I keep coming back, so clearly something's working.
The core loop is pure touch. You drag back from a coin, aim, and let go. Power comes from how far you pull, and the trajectory hint fades out on later boards so you have to learn the physics by feel. That gradual trust in the player is the best thing about Coin Strike — it never dumbs itself down.
My favorite trick is the quick restart. Miss a shot and you're back in seconds, which means failure never stings. I found myself experimenting with softer flicks and bank shots because the game made trying cheap.
If I have a complaint, it's that the later boards get fiddly in a way that's more about tiny margins than new ideas. Still, for a free pick-up game, Coin Strike earns its spot. Give it a few rounds before judging — it clicks around level ten.
