Why turn-based RPGs are the best fit for a phone
Playing games on a phone means being interrupted. A message, a stop announcement, someone asking for directions. Turn-based RPGs handle all of that gracefully because the game simply waits for you.
That's a big reason Ashvale Wanderers worked so well for me. I could stop mid-battle, deal with life, and pick up exactly where I left off without losing the thread or dying to a missed input.
There's also a depth argument. Turn-based combat lets you think, and thinking fits the stop-start rhythm of mobile play better than twitch reflexes do. You plan a turn, execute, and watch it play out.
If you've been avoiding mobile RPGs because action combat feels cramped on a touchscreen, try a turn-based one instead. The genre and the platform are a better match than people give them credit for.
